I finally abandoned aluminum foil and both types of aluminum pie shields in favor of the silicone pie shield. I use my own pie pans and make my own crusts and the aluminum shields never fit quite right. Harold Imports Mrs. Anderson’s 9-Inch Pie Shield, Progressive International Pie Crust Shields I bought two of the pie shields, and they worked perfectly on my 9″ pie pans even with the decorative edge on the crust. I left them on through the entire baking time, and the edge of the crust turned out nicely browned all the way around. The shield becomes very hot in the oven so care should be taken when handling it.

The shield provides ample protection for the crust without covering the pie filling, and they can be easily removed without worrying about damaging the edge of the crust. Unlike the aluminum shields, the silicon pie shield won’t become dented or banged up after a few uses or storage mishaps. This pie shield costs just a tad bit more than the aluminum ones, but it is well worth the extra cents especially if you bake a lot of pies.

The shield is dishwasher safe and oven safe up to 500 degrees F.

Not As Advertised3
I love how this product works. Much better than the aluminum shields. The only thing I was very disappointed in, and as it was the main reason I bought it, was it did not fit a 10″ pie plate as advertised. It fits a 9″ pan perfectly, but not a 10″ pie plate. If you are looking to use this using a 10″ pie plate, this is not the pie shield for you. Otherwise, this is a great produc.

So much better than foil or other items to shield the edge of the pie from burning! Even makes frozen pies taste more homemade … truly is a great item for baking pies. If you have ever burned a crust on a pie (or gotten it a little dark), and you’re tired of using foils to “try” and wrap the edge of a pie, this will be your saving grace. I recommend this whole-heartedly to anyone who wants to look like a pro but doesn’t have that skillset. Excellent vac: mostly pros, with few cons5
We have four vacuum cleaners, and it’s not because we’re neat freaks. It’s exactly the opposite. We keep hoping for the one vacuum that will clean our house with the least effort. Each succession of vacuum cleaner gets smaller and smaller, especially after we discovered we can pay our 5-year old 50 cents to clean the carpet. Between this and the Eureka “The Boss Superlite”, they’re our favorites. Here are some of the real pluses of the system, followed by the negatives:

PROS:
Great suction, especially on fine dust
Very lightweight, our kid (5 years old) can operate it
Retractable handle makes it easy to carry around (we’re short people)
Retractable handle makes it easy to store
Inexpensive

CONS:
The HEPA filter attracts dust very quickly and needs to be cleaned each time (is this a plus or a minus?) Anyhow, it’s a messy job.
The front face could be a fraction smaller to get under furniture better

Great for In-Between Fast Clean Ups3
Overall, it’s a really good vac. I wouldn’t use this for a whole house, but for a small upstairs or downstairs, or a two bedroom (or smaller) apartment.

The narrow cleaning path is great for going in between tight spaces w/o moving everything around. The 12 amp motor is powerful and has great suction for under $100.

It is constructed pretty well, except for the cheap plastic wheels that feel flimsy and squeak right out of the box.

As with ANY bagless vac, to keep suction strong at all times, you have to clean the filter every single time you use it (especially with pets). If you don’t want to be bothered cleaning it every time, then be fair, dont buy this machine and don’t give it poor ratings. Get a bagged vac … or a maid.

For those reviewers who say it died 3 or 4 times – it is not dieing. It is overheating because the filter is not clean. The filter needs to be cleaned every one or two uses, not when the dust bin fills up to the max. The reason it works again is because the motor cooled down.

I have 3 vacuum cleaners–large and heavy upright for carpet, cordless stick vac for picker-upper, and Eureka Optima for all-round cleaning. This has the best saction and versatility among all, and for the first time, I feel I can stop my pursuit of a good vac cleaner.

After trying so many cleaners, I now have realistic expectation. Even a good vac has some shorcomings, and you need to know what your priority is. In this case, cleaning the waste bin and filter is very messy and cumbersome. Because Eureka Optima has very good saction, the filter catches so much fine dust very quickly. I need to dust if off almost everytime I vacuum, and it is not fun. However, for me, can-vacuum-anywhere versatility and light weight make up for it.

I recommend Eureka Optima even if this dies on me within one year (which it does not yet). This is not a perfect cleaner, and there is not a perfect cleaner, but a great value for solid performance.

Don’t get this, water will eventually get into the unit and destroy it1
When I first heard of Sonicare coming out with a toothbrush with replaceable batteries, I was excited. I upgraded to this from the Sonicare Advance after it failed to hold a charge any longer. With the other Sonicares, you have to throw the whole unit out if the batteries inside die. With these you just change out the batteries. I liked them so much I bought 2. Now after 3 months, both of them have already died. The end cap where you replace the batteries is not water tight. The O-ring that seals the battery compartment is not made very well. There are also 2 holes at the bottom of the toothbrush next to the metal clip on the endcap, which I believe is a design flaw. Although Sonicare sent me replacement units, I believe these replacements will also only last a few months. This is a great toothbrush for brushing, except they need to send it back to the design stage for the water resistant problem.

This brush WILL quickly self-destruct…DO NOT BUY!!1
Do not base your purchase decision on any reviewer who has had the product for only a day, two days, or even a week. My Sonicare Xtreme e3000 brush died about 3 weeks after first use. All owners of this brush will, sooner and probably not much later, find that water will invade the battery compartment and corrode the metal contacts and your batteries. That’s what happened to mine and, after reading other reviews here and elsewhere, apparently is also happening to all other users of this brush. The O-Ring rubber seal suffers a design flaw and cannot maintain a water-tight seal. It’s very obvious from the moment you first install the batteries…the bottom cap just will not seal tight enough! This product needs to be recalled by the manufacturer and Amazon needs to stop selling this garbage. I’m assuming that I’d be better off if I had instead bought one of Sonicare’s reachargeable brushes with the sealed battery.

A Real Disappointment2
This item worked wonderfully for about 1 month, then water must have gotten into it or the battery connection went bad. I would have to change the battery every week, later, realizing it was not the batteries but the connection.

Bad product design2
My complaint for these brushes is the poor product design, specifically, with the tips of the biggest and the smallest brushes. To clean around all the sharp corners well, it is important for the tips of these brushes to be covered with a lot of bristles. Guess what, the tip of the smallest brush is prety much dominated by the metal wires, so when you try to clean, instead of getting the bristles to touch and rub against the surfaces, it’s mostly the metal wires that come into contact. Last time I checked, it’s the bristles that clean, not the metal wire. Same with the biggest brush: The way the metal wires wrap around the sponge tip to hold it to the handle prevents the sponge from coming into full contact with the surfaces.

The product designers for the brushes don’t deserve to be product designers. Do you know how much it takes to design a simple floor mop? A lot. A good product designer has to think about which yarn absorbs water well, how much water to absorb so the mop won’t be hard to wring, what wringing mechanism to use, how long the handle should be, how thick the handle should be, how the mop head comes into contact with the floor, and so forth, in order to maximize ease of use and effectiveness.

The designers of the brushes are a failure. It seems that not much thought went into the design. Yes, we are dealing with just brushes, but even brushes should do the job they are supposed to do well.

Great sizes, bad construction2
I am glad for the sizes but the construction is poor and the bristles too stiff to do a good job cleaning. I still have to break out the pipe cleaners for the small spots and the rag for the large. The bristles don’t bush out at the end so when you push the brush into the well, you are scraping the metal end against the bottom – the metal end doesn’t do a great job scrubbing the residue off the bottom of the well.
Bamboo makes a Kong cleaner with a suction cup that is better designed and has a small brush in the handle. You’ll still need the pipe cleaner for the smaller pieces though.

Necessity5
Should be included in with the fountain. It was absolutely impossible to clean before (took an hour, I am not kidding) but using this kit makes it easy & fast.

Braun Razor4
This is my second Braun, good razor and of course made in Germany. Shaves well when you just dont feel like lathering up. The refill things are to pricey so I just refill them with rubbing alcohol and use machine oil to lubricate it.

Good, BUT for the price it should not have issues.3
While it does a close shave, if you have a more ample face, you will be running it over and over again to get those last hairs.
It does take about 90 days before your face “adjusts” to the shaver. However, the biggest problem thus far is that the shaver will not charge in the cleaning station, despite the manual’s assurance that it will charge in the cleaning station.
I have to take mine out about once a week to charge it, overall a minor inconvenience, but for the money, should not have happen in the first place.
Braun advises I drive over 1 hour to get the shaver “serviced” I say, I just won’t get another Braun and not have to worry about it.

Never going back to the 3 cutter product!5
Having been a former owner of two Norelco products since the mid 1990′s I had a need for a new shaver since the old one was literally falling apart. I have been replacing cutters, cleaning heads and used a shaver with a cleaning stand which broke after a year. Giant cupcakes are more fun!5
I really like these. Nonstick, so they wash up easily. I haven’t found papers for these yet so I just use a little oil and they come out clean. If you use a recipe for 24 muffins or cupcakes, it will make about 12 of these giant ones (just bake a little longer). These are about 1/3 of the price I’ve seen in kitchen stores, and they are of good quality.

The Big Size you need5
These muffin pans are excellent. Be sure to buy two at once or you will have to reorder like I did.

They are perfect for nice-sized muffins (and cupcakes).

Plus, the real reason I bought mine was for making homemade rolls. Even if you just use frozen bread dough, you will get nice big fluffy rolls because the muffin tins are large enough to allow better rising than ordinary muffin tins.

Delivers on what it promises – just make sure you understand what it promises!5
In reading the reviews for this product, I’ve noticed that some people may have been expecting something more than what Cuisinart is selling. Having used this unit several times now, here are my impressions and thoughts.
- The unit uses a freezer bowl to freeze the product. That means that the bowl MUST be frozen solid and the product MUST be very well chilled, otherwise you will not get good results. We have just kept our freezer bowls in the deep freeze when not in use so that we can make ice cream fairly quickly. It’s probably best to mix up your soft serve mix at least an hour in advance and put it in the coldest part of your fridge or (as another reviewer suggested) in the freezer for 10-15 minutes to get it as cold as possible without prematurely freezing it.
- The freezer bowl doesn’t have a huge capacity. It can make “10-12″ servings – if your servings are small. 6-8 is probably more like it. If you want more, make certain you purchase an additional bowl and keep it frozen.
- The instructions on time expectations generally say 10-15 minutes, and this can be true if you chill the ice cream mixture very thoroughly. Otherwise it will take longer, probably more like 15-20 minutes.
- The first serving or so may be fairly soupy – I have found that I can dispense some into a cup and then re-add that into the top of the bowl.
- The “mix-ins” really don’t mix in to the soft serve at all, they are really topping dispensers. If you’re expecting something like a DQ Blizzard, it’s not the same. Also, don’t over-fill (or pack in) the mix in bins. I’ve had good luck with chopped peanuts, sprinkles and the mini M&Ms.

The differences between this unit and a more conventional ice cream freezer are mainly that this unit has a freezable bowl vs. a bowl that is placed in a mix of ice and rock salt. That means it is a little more convenient, but lacks the capacity of the conventional freezer. Our ice cream freezer makes about twice as much ice cream as the soft serve, but it is much louder, generally requires more clean up and doesn’t dispense the product. On the other side, I think a conventional freezer has more versatility if you are making things like frozen custards that set up harder than soft serve. Finally, the freezer just isn’t really as much “fun” as this one is which has real appeal if you’ve got kids in the family.

Overall, I’ve really enjoyed this gadget – but I did some research first and made certain I understood what I was buying. This is NOT like the soft serve dispensers in restaurants – but it’s very nice for a treat on a summer afternoon.

Cool summer treats4
We bought this ice cream maker thinking we could use it for a big party we were having. It turns out that the freezer bowl will give you about 10 – 12 servings before it needs refreezing. So we opted not to use it for the party (not enough servings) but instead use it for our family.

I was a little apprehensive about buying this product since similar product reviews were none to flattering. This unit howover seems to work just fine.

The instructions claim that the ice cream is ready to serve in about 12 – 15 minutes but we found that 20 minutes was needed to reach the right consistency. But, once it’s ready, the ice cream poured out perfectly (we even got the knack of twirling the column of ice cream into our cones). We’ve decided that the vanilla ice cream recipe is our family’s favorite.

Clean up was a snap since all the parts can be easily removed and cleaned.

We tried the condiment dispensers and my kids loved it. We found that certain things don’t work well if they aren’t chopped finely or if they don’t have a slippery surface (like m&m’s). Otherwise, it’s cool to have the ‘extras’ intermixed with the ice cream.

Overall, this product is nicely engineered and works very well.

This product works as advertised – but it is extremely important to place the freezer bowl in the back of your freezer to insure that it freezes solid. The first two times using this product we failed to make ice cream because we froze the bowl in the front part of our freezer for 24 hours and it did not freeze solid. The condiment dispenser works fine for sprinkles, but items like chopped nuts don’t quite work as well. The recipies are very good and once you get the feezer bowl froze solid (really takes about 48 hours the first time) the ice cream is very very good.

Works for Some, But Not All5
I had a persistent cold and ear ache for some time, and when it got to the point that I could barely hear, I went to the Whole Body department of Whole Foods and asked them to help me. They told me to buy this Oreganol, but the .45 oz bottle cost $25, and I told them no way. Well, they gave me a free sample (always a good sign), and this stuff drained my ears and sinuses about five minutes after dosage (I did buy the product). It works fantastically. It tastes like, well, a super-concentrated dose of oregano, which is not very delicious at all.

It does burn for a minute or so after dosage, and may cause heartburn. If you frequently get heart burn, this is not the product for you.

I bought the tiny .45 oz bottle, which they told me would last about six months with daily dosing of 1-2 drops to prevent illness. Mind you, the 1-2 drops can be easily diluted in water, removing the awful burning sensation and terrible taste. For colds, you will need a higher dosage applied directly under the tongue and then swallowed.

Well, I ranted about how great this product was to my friends during the cold season. For many of them it worked very well, for others it only added to their misery. Yes, this product will not work for everyone. One of my friends, who is into herbal medicines, tried this product and it made her throw up. This was followed by hours of heartburn and no relief from her sinus pressure.

What I would recommend is that before you buy this product, see if you can get a sample from a friend or from your local health food store (in my case, Whole Foods).

When it does work, it works great, and when it doesn’t, it’s an awful experience.

Awesome-better than antibiotics!5
I started using oil of oregano for a staph bladder infection that was antibiotic resistant. It’s the only thing that got rid of the blasted thing. Also, you can clean with it, apply it topically or take in internally. It’s anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-parasitic and anti-viral. The taste is very strong, but it’s worth it to be healthy. No more preservative, additives, coloring, chemicals for me. Get it it works.

This is really an amazing cure for som many things!5
I started using this product when my cold started getting really bad. I didn’t want to go get antibiotics for a cold but I didn’t want it to turn into something worse. I went to the health store and I was to told to put it in a steamer and also take it orally. This stuff totally helped clear up my month long cold. Plus is has also helped with my constant UT infections and other ones. My husband is currently using it on his foot to try to get rid of his planters wart and it seems to be working! I would defintley get the book about Oreganol oil and all of its uses and how to use it.

Great Product – But things you should know before buying4
The zones work great, within the limits listed below.

Good Points
1. Has a A, B, and AB setting which lets you control individual dog access to areas or objects (such as separate food bowls for special diets, rooms, etc)
2. The shock is mild but definitely uncomfortable (I tested it on me before I used it on the dogs). It is milder than the strong static shocks I regularly get around the house.
3. The dogs quickly learn to avoid things that cause shocks.

Limits
1. Collar wear is recommended to be limited to 12 hours due to rubbing by the stud on the neck. This can be a problem with intelligent dog and schedules requiring longer wear times. Intelligent dogs can quickly learn that the collar is the source of the shock and can wait until they are not wearing it to get into the forbidden.
2. The range increments listed (2-12 ft) are not dependable. I find mine, with direct line of sight, is half that or less.
3. The six available range settings are not enough. There are times that 1 or 2 ft increment is too much.
4. Area of affect is spherical. Keep this in mind when deciding where to use them. Depending on the range setting, just walking by the counter or under the table can set them off even if all you intended was to discourage Fluffy’s nose from appearing on the counter/table top. The only way to alleviate this is to find some way to dangle the zone from the ceiling to correctly limit the reaction area to those 3 ft off the floor.

inconspicuous and effective training device5
very inconspicuous but very effective training device…has kept an 80 pound lab mix and 65 pound shepherd mix from running and jumping onto an antique glass entry door!(they’ve been doing this for years) Works like a charm and love the fact that you don’t need any plugs, cords and can use multiple collars at one time. It is nice to know that I may move this to any other area in my home without complications and begin training there!

My dog, chihuahua, is so resilent to correction. You can tell him something a million times, spray him, watch him, stare him down, he just doesn’t get it. So we put this in the living room where we don’t want him on the couches, we used a leash to show him what to do.

We put the collar on, we tested the distance/perimeter with the collar, not on the dog. It beeps first, so that’s their warning. We put the collar and a leash on the dog, and let him walk over to the couch, he heard the beep, and we moved him away so that he learns where to go. He didn’t get it the first time, but got it everytime after that, now he runs when he hears the beep. One problem though, when we put it in the doorway to our room, if he gets too excited he can actually run right through it and he doesn’t get bothered by it at all, no shock no beep. But that’s cause he’s running, he doesn’t usually run into a room. PLus he has associated the beep and shock with the sensor, so when he sees the sensor he avoids the area in its entirety. I only wish I could use it with my cat!! That would be great.
